The 5th International Particle Accelerator Conference [IPAC'14] took place in Dresden, Germany from 15-20 June 2014. The conference brought together 1,200 accelerator scientists and engineers from around the world to discuss the latest developments in a field that underpins areas of research from high-energy physics to structural biology. As a truly international conference series, the venue for IPAC moves between Asia, Europe and North America on a three-year cycle. 2014 Awards of EPS Accelerator Group

The EPS-Accelerators Group prizes is pleased to announce the laureates of the Rolf Wideröe Prize, the Gersch Budker Prize and the Frank Sacherer Prize. These prizes are awarded every three years for exceptional work in the accelerator field.
The Rolf Wideröe Prize for “outstanding work in the accelerator field without age limit” will be awarded to Professor Mikael Eriksson, Machine Director of the Max-IV Laboratory, Lund, Sweden, for outstanding leadership in the design, construction and commissioning of the MAXlab Synchrotron Radiation Facilities. The 4th International Particle Accelerator Conference [IPAC’13] will take place in Shanghai, China, from 12 to 17 May 2013. The conference will bring together accelerator scientists and engineers from all over the world to discuss the latest developments in a field that underpins many areas of research, from high energy physics to structural biology. The three previous IPAC conferences have each attracted over 1000 participants. EPS’s Caterina Biscari to head synchrotron facility

Caterina Biscari is being appointed the director of the Laboratory of Synchrotron Light CELLS-ALBA, in Barcelona, it was announced on 13 July. Biscari, a researcher with the Italian Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, will begin her new duties from September this year. The ALBA laboratory – which has been in operation since March 2012 – uses synchrotron light for a wide variety of experiments.

Appeal for 2012 Student Grant Programme sponsors

The European Physical Society Accelerator Group [EPS-AG] is appealing for sponsors for the 2012 Student Grant Programmes, to send European students to the IPAC’12 conference.

The Student Grant Programmes from the last two years were hugely successful; over 50 students attended IPAC’10, and the combined sponsorship programmes involved with IPAC’11 enabled over 107 students worldwide to attend – around a tenth of the total number of participants…
