One of the main activities of the board of the EPS Nuclear Physics Division is to organise the European Nuclear Physics Conference, which is an EPS Divisional Conference and one of the major international conferences that reviews the field of nuclear physics every third year.
The Nuclear Physics Division [NPD] of the EPS supports the advancement and the dissemination of knowledge in nuclear physics. In this respect the NPD regularly awards some of Europe’s most prestigious prizes. Among these is the “Lise Meitner Prize”, named after the famous Austrian physicist who worked on radioactivity and nuclear physics. Nominations are now open for the Lise Meitner Prize in 2016. The prize, awarded to one or several experienced scientists, recognises outstanding work in the fields of experimental, theoretical or applied nuclear science. Particular consideration will be given to scientific activities that represent the core of the nuclear science in Europe.
The International Year of the Light 2015 [IYL 2015] is celebrated worldwide with many events and initiatives. The European Physical Society is one of the founding partners of the IYL2015 and the Board of the Nuclear Physics Division of EPS also contributes to this effort with dedicated publications foreseen in journals like Europhysics News and through other actions in different media.
The European Physical Society Conference on Nuclear Physics is one of the major International Conferences that reviews the field of nuclear physics every third year. The first two Conferences were held in Bochum (2009) and in Bucharest (2012), with 374 participants from 29 countries in the last one.
In 2015 the Third European Nuclear Physics Conference will take place in Groningen, Netherlands from August 31 to September 4, 2015.
