The conference on Long Term Sustainability of the Research Infrastructures, organised under the auspices of the Bulgarian Presidency by the Ministry of Education and Science, attracted 273 participants from 30 countries.

Ana Proykova was the Chair of the Organising Committee and the moderator of Session 1: Research Infrastructures Challenges beyond 2020.

Caterina Biscari, Director of the ALBA, was a panellist in Session 2: European Synchronisation of RI policies.

Enhancing Long Term Sustainability and Opening Up Research Infrastructures to Society and Industry and Research Infrastructures beyond 2020 – creating a sustainable and effective ecosystem for science and society were the focus of valuable debates. The speakers underlined the importance of continued political commitment to public and European Structural and Investment (ESIF) in research infrastructures by demonstrating evidence for the broad benefits of research infrastructures for society and industry.

The conference adopted a European call for action on the long-term sustainability of research infrastructures (RIs) to provide an impetus for the full realisation of the potential of the European Research Area and thereby further boost broad-based research and innovation. The call for action will foster the long-term competitiveness and excellence of the RIs in Europe and worldwide.
