Editorial,

Dear Readers,

Within this issue of e-EPS you will learn that the EPS, having recently responded to the EC consultation ‘From Challenges to Opportunities: Towards a Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation funding’, is now coordinating replies to two ongoing consultations.

The first is the European Commission consultation on ‘Scientific Information in the Digital Age’, particularly relevant for research institutions and scientific publishers concerning the access to and preservation of digital scientific information.

The second is promoted by the genSET project, ‘The Future of Gender & Innovation in Europe‘, which is looking specifically at how Europe could benefit from a more effective evaluation of gender as a success factor in scientific research and innovation.

The EPS replies will be based on input from its 41 Member Societies, thus contributing to the science policy debate on behalf of the European physics community.

I would also like to highlight, in relation to the EPS International Year of Light initiative, the new ‘Light for Development’ project – launched by the Physics for Development Group and the Quantum Electronics and Optics Division of the EPS -, which fits with the recent official endorsement of the IOYL initiative by the African Physical Society.

Enjoy reading,

Luisa Cifarelli
EPS President
