EPS Executive Committee and Staff activities March 2018

1 March 2018: David Lee, EPS Secretary General, and Patricia Helfenstein, EPS conference manager, attended the EPS-QEOD board meeting and the CLEO/Europe-EQEC steering committee meeting in Munich, Germany.

Gina Gunaratnam, EPS communication coordinator and technical editor of e-EPS, met with Matthew Chalmers, editor of the CERN Courier, to discuss and strengthen collaboration between the two publications.

2 March 2018: David Lee and Patricia Helfenstein attended the Messe Munich steering committee meeting of the World of Photonics congress in Munich, Germany.

Christophe Rossel, EPS vice-president, participated in the 5th OSPP meeting in Brussels, discussing updates from the working groups on Rewards and Skills, on Altmetrics (called now Future Generation Metrics), on FAIR Data, Citizen Science, and on Future of Scholarly Communication. An integrated advice on the 8 Open Science ambitions is being drafted for submission to the next competitiveness Council in May 2018 (meeting of the Ministries of the EU Member Countries).

5-9 March 2018: Rüdiger Voss, EPS president, participated in the March Meeting of the American Physical Society in Los Angeles, and represented EPS in a special session on “Major Physics Organizations and Their Role in the Future of Physics”, with an invited talk entitled “EPS: Promoting Scientific Cooperation in Europe in a Global Context”.

12-16 March 2018: Rüdiger Voss participated in the Joint Meeting of the Condensed Matter Divisions of the EPS and the German Physical Society in Berlin, with presentations in the prize giving sessions and and outreach session organised jointly by the EPS Young Minds and the “junge DPG”.

13 March 2018: Christophe Rossel gave one of the talks at the special session ’50 years of EPS’ at the 2018 joint meeting of the DPG-EPS Condensed Matter Division in Berlin. Title ‘1968-2018 How the world changed’. Other talks were given by Rüdiger Voss, Kees van der Beek (chair of the EPS Condensed Matter Division), Araceli Venegas-Gomes (member of the EPS Young Minds Committee) and Bart van Tiggelen (editor-in-chief of EPL).

16 March 2018: Rüdiger Voss, David Lee and Frédéric Burr, EPL staff editor, attended the EPL Board of Directors meeting in Berlin, Germany.

22 March 2018: Rüdiger Voss, together with Angela Bracco, e-EPS editor, David Lee, Luisa Cifarelli, member of the EPS Executive Committee (by conference call) and Gina Gunaratnam participated in a meeting of the e-EPS Editorial Board in Mulhouse, France.
