The Ukrainian Physical Society, on behalf of the physics community in the Ukraine, would like to express its disappointment that the Eastern Partnership Summit, Vilnius, 28-29 November 2013 did not seize the opportunity of reinforcing Ukraine’s ties to Europe. The Ukrainian Physical Society deeply believes that closer relations with Europe will enhance social, economic and cultural development of the Ukraine, including in physics.

It should be noted that the Ukrainian Physical Society was the first truly independent scientific society in the Ukraine, founded in 1992, just 1 year after the creation of the Republic of Ukraine. It has worked to embody the values of science and democracy and to develop relations with scientists around the world, and is an active member of the European Physical Society.

The Ukrainian Physical Society welcomes and encourages other groups that support similar values, and will continue to strive for closer relations with Europe.
