Inauguration of the International Center of Interdisciplinary Science Education

On August 12, 2013, one and a half years after the groundbreaking ceremony of the International Center of Interdisciplinary Science Education [ICISE], an impressive building was inaugurated in Quy Nhon, Central Vietnam. The Vietnamese government, along with many internationally recognized, prestigious universities and institutions in physics, strongly endorsed this initiative.

ALMA, an international partnership to discover space

After 10 years of construction the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array [ALMA] based in Chile was inaugurated on 13 March 2013. The ceremony marks the completion of all the major systems of the giant telescope and the formal transition from a construction project to a fully-fledged observatory.

INFN establishes a new centre in Trento

On 15 January 2013 the University of Trento opened the Trento Institute for Fundamental Physics and Application [TIFPA]. The TIFPA was created through the collaboration of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics [INFN], the University of Trento, Fondazione Bruno Kessler [FBK] and the Provincial Agency for Proton Therapy Trento [ATreP].

ITER gets off the ground

The 20,500-square-metre ITER Headquarters building was inaugurated on 17 January 2013. The ITER site is located in Cadarache, France, that already hosts France’s nuclear research centre [CEA].
