Integration of the gender dimension in H2020 work-programmes

Horizon 2020 considers gender as a cross-cutting issue and stipulates that “the gender dimension shall be adequately integrated in research and innovation content, i.e. in programmes and projects and followed through at all stages of the research cycle”. Integrating the gender dimension in research and innovation content is one of the three objectives on gender equality in Horizon 2020. It means integrating sex and gender analysis into research. This ranges from securing inclusion of women and men as subjects in research to considering the needs of women and men as end-users of technological innovations.

This is the core of the White paper approved by the Advisory Group on Gender – one of the fourth cross-cutting advisory groups composed of members of the 15 groups of independent experts who advise on priorities for Horizon2020 …

EPS letter to the president of the European Commission on the re-allocation of H2020 funds

The European Physical Society [EPS] has written a letter to the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, expressing concern over the re-allocation of funds from the Horizon 2020 budget.
Research and development are key drivers of prosperity, and reducing Europe’s capacity to finance frontier research jeopardizes its ability to develop the future technology that will be important for economic growth, job creation, and addressing societal challenges.

A flying start for CERN in H2020

Following successful participation in a string of some 90 projects within FP7, CERN is actively involved in Horizon 2020. In 2014, nearly 60 proposals involving CERN’s participation were submitted to various H2020 sub-programmes and the hope is that many more will follow in 2015.

The rectors of the League of European Research Universities [LERU], during a meeting in Helsinki from 16-17 May 2014, have reflected on the present relationship between Switzerland and the European Union [EU].

Although respecting the Swiss vote to limit the immigration and the consequent EU decision to exclude Switzerland from the Erasmus+ programme and downgrade Switzerland from associated to third country in Horizon 2020 calls, the rectors regret the negative impact this will have on the strong Swiss research, innovation and education community…
