Call for the 2016 EPS QEOD Prize for Research in Laser Science & Applications
The Quantum Electronics and Optics Division [QEOD] of the European Physical Society [EPS] is presently soliciting nominations for their biennial prize in ‘Research in Laser Science and Applications’ to be presented at the 2016 Europhoton Conference on Solid-State, Fibre and Waveguide Coherent Light Sources. Details of the application procedure and information required are given below.
Europhoton 2016
The 7th Europhoton conference organised by the EPS Quantum-Optics and Electronics Division [EPS QEOD] will focus on “Solid State, Fibre, and Waveguide Coherent Light Sources”. It will be held at Technische Universität in Vienna, Auqtria, right in the city centre from 21-26 August 2016.
France inaugurates APOLLON Laser
The summer of the International Year of Light ended brilliantly in France.
After PETAL’s achievement celebrated in mid-September near Bordeaux (see related e-EPS news of this issue), the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) together with Université Paris-Saclay (which includes the Ecole Polytechnique, ENSTA, IOGS and the Université Paris-Sud) inaugurated the APOLLON laser facility on the 29th of October 2015. Young Researcher Prizes in Quantum Electronics and Optics
The European Physical Society is delighted to announce the 2015 winners of its young researcher Prizes in Quantum Electronics and Optics. These prizes are awarded once every two years, and recognise the highest level of excellence amongst emerging researchers. The young researcher prizes include the prestigious Fresnel prize for research achievements obtained before the age of 35, as well as prizes for the best nominated European PhD theses in optics over the last two years. The awards were presented in a ceremony on Tuesday June 23rd at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO), Europe and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (EQEC), held during the World of Photonics Congress in Munich, Germany.
Two Prestigious Prizes in Quantum Electronics and Optics announced
The European Physical Society is delighted to announce the winners for 2015 of its two most prestigious prizes in Quantum Electronics and Optics. These prizes, awarded every two years, recognize the highest level of achievements in fundamental and applied research in optical physics. The awards will be presented in a special Plenary Ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 during the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe (CLEO®/Europe) and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (EQEC), held in Munich, Germany.
Call for QEOD Prizes 2015
The Quantum Electronics and Optics Division of the European Physical Society is soliciting nominations for the biennial Quantum Electronics and Optics Prizes, Fresnel Prizes and Thesis Prizes, which will be presented at the 2015 Edition of the CLEO/Europe-EQEC Conference in Munich, Germany, from 21-25 June June 2015. Nominations are to be received online by 20 March 2015 at the latest.
Thomas Udem winner of EPS-QEOD new prize
The Quantum Electronics and Optics Division of the European Physical Society [EPS-QEOD] awarded its first ever Prize for Research in Laser Science and Applications to Dr. Thomas Udem (Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik, Garching, Germany). New Chair for Quantum Electronics and Optics Division
Luc Bergé, Director of Research and laboratory head at the French Atomic Energy Commission [CEA] has been elected the new chair of the European Physical Society’s Quantum Electronics and Optics Division [QEOD], succeeding Professor Markus Pollnau from the University of Twente who has successfully overseen the division’s activities for the last two years.
