The Conference on Plasma Diagnostics is a bi-annual event which aims at bringing together physicists or other scientists working on diagnostics for magnetic confinement fusion, beam plasmas and inertial fusion, low-temperature and industrial plasmas, and basic and astrophysical plasmas.The second edition of the Conference will take place in Bordeaux, France, starting from 18th and finishing on 21st of April 2017.

In August 2015, at Eötvös University (ELTE) in Budapest, the “Teaching Physics InnovativelyConference (TPI-15) featured plenary presentations, contributed paper sessions and a panel discussion about recent challenges in physics education. The event was attended by more than 100 participants from 18 countries, and dedicated to the bringing together of teachers and scientists, mediators and promoters of physics, who may jointly build bridges between researchers and society.

Hommage to José Mariano Gago – Science and Europe

On June 29, a conference in honour of the life and legacy of the late José Mariano Gago (1948-2015) took place in the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was organised by Ciência Viva (http://www.cienciaviva.pt/). At this occasion government leaders, policy makers, international experts and friends came together to highlight José Mariano’s achievements and their impact on shaping science policy and moving Europe towards a knowledge-based society. JM Gago was a remarkable experimental high-energy physicist, science educator, and one of the most influential European science policy makers in the last couple of decades. Professor of Physics at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, he acted for many years as Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education of Portugal. JM Gago was also a fervent supporter of the European Physical Society (EPS).
