A gender inversion for the Solvay picture at the 103th annual congress of SIF
Within the annual congress of the Italian Physical Society (SIF) the entire morning of September 14 was dedicated to two very interesting round tables, one organized by the University of Trento (Chiara La Tessa and Alessandra Saletti) on “Research: which opportunities are there for women” and another organized organized by SIF (Luisa Cifarelli) on “Physics, singular feminine”.
Editorial – The European Strategy for Nuclear Science: NuPECC gets help from the Nuclear Physics Division
The Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee [NuPECC] has just started the process for the preparation of a new Long Range Plan (LRP) for nuclear science in Europe. A new European strategy document is indeed needed since the last one dates from 2010 and because these documents are important references for research in the field over a period of 5-7 years.

NuPECC, the Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee (http://www.nupecc.org/) is contributing to the International Year of Light [IYL2015] with a brochure “Light to Reveal the Heart of Matter”.
We would like to show the many facets how the electromagnetic spectrum – light in its broadest sense – is featured in nuclear physics research, from high-energy gamma-rays down to scintillation light and lasers, looking into nucleons and nuclei, and connecting to other fields such as astrophysics and medicine.
The round table on “Influencing EU Science Policy” at the 2015 EPS Council in Bad Honnef
At the EPS Council meeting, which took place on 27-28 March in Bad Honnef (DE), a round table was organised on the topic of “Influencing European Commission Science Policy”. The round table attracted the attention of the participants and triggered interesting discussions. The scientific and industrial communities need to provide their viewpoints to science policy makers. EPS needs to define its own strategy and continue its collaborations with other learned societies and organisations representing different scientific fields to speak with a coherent voice in the EU.
The presentations at the round table were centred on these issues with specific inputs related to the experience of the organization (or company) represented by the speaker.
