As part of EUCARD2 activities, and co-sponsored by EPS Technology and Innovation Group (TIG), a workshop on the status of new developments in Accelerator-Driven Systems or ADS was held at CERN on February 7-9.
The EPS works to support its members. Find below the list of activities of the EPS Executive Committee and staff for September 2015:
1-4 September: Christophe Rossel, EPS president, attended the joint annual Meeting of the Austrian and Swiss Physical Societies at TU Wien, Vienna, delivering one opening address and chairing two sessions (one plenary and one on Condensed Matter Physics)
Global energy use is increasing rapidly, driven by rising living standards in developing countries. Although the percentage of primary energy provided by burning fossil fuels is falling slowly from its current value of some 80%, their contribution is rising in absolute terms and is expected to increase by around 25% by 2035. This is bad news given the need to decarbonise (to reduce air pollution as well as to moderate climate change): is it inevitable?
“Lichtspiele” (light games) is this year’s motto to the science festival organised by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research [BMBF], the German Physics Society [DPG], and the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany.
The Zurich Science Days “Scientifica15″ will take place from 4-6 September 2015.
The 20th International Conference on Multimedia in Physics Teaching and Learning [MPTL'20] will be held on 9-11 September 2015 at the LMU Munich, Germany.
The 31st European Conference on Surface Science [ECOSS-31] will be held at the International Convention Center of Barcelona www.ccib.es from 31 August to 4 September 2015. ECOSS is a well established meeting with a longstanding tradition that started back in 1978 in Amsterdam and is organized jointly by the Surface Science Division of IUVSTA and the Surface and Interface Section of the European Physical Society. It provides a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art surface physics and chemistry, discusses recent advances and current problems, and points out the prospective development of the field. Experimental as well as theoretical aspects are addressed, covering mainly …
The Joint Annual Meeting of the Austrian Physical Society and the Swiss Physical Society is organised together with Swiss and Austrian scientists from the Austrian Physical society [ÖPG], the Swiss Society for Astrophysics and Astronomy [SSAA] and the Austrian Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics [ÖGAA].
The European Physical Society Conference on Nuclear Physics is one of the major International Conferences that reviews the field of nuclear physics every third year. The first two Conferences were held in Bochum (2009) and in Bucharest (2012), with 374 participants from 29 countries in the last one.
In 2015 the Third European Nuclear Physics Conference will take place in Groningen, Netherlands from August 31 to September 4, 2015.
