December 2019,

The 20th Young Minds Action Committee meeting took place in Warsaw on 11-12 October 2019, hosted by the local EPS YM section (Koło Naukowe Optyki i Fotoniki UW – OSA & SPIE & EPS & IEEE Student Chapter). These meetings take place twice per year, and since last year, they are hosted by local sections. This is an incredible opportunity to secure effective communication between the Action Committee and the local sections, and to strengthen the programme.

The first part of the meeting was devoted to the presentation of the local section activities followed by a discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of the YM programme from a section point of view. The Action Committee got several new inputs that will be carried on in the upcoming months, such as the creation of a list of endorsed speakers to be shared among the sections for the organisation of seminars and conferences.
Other outcomes of the meeting include the definition of the procedure to adopt to grant free membership to all BSc students that are involved in the YM programme for the next year, and a discussion on the yearly budget, which has been analysed in order to schedule future actions to improve the impact of the YM programme on the YM community.

Last, but not least, a large part of the meeting was devoted to the organisation of the next YM Leadership Meeting, which will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the YM project. The official announcement will be made shortly, what we can say right now is that it will take place early in May 2020, in one of the places where it all began… can you guess where?

The program will include perspective talks on the history of YM as well as on the future developments of the program, workshops and round tables, and of course a great party to celebrate the road so far!
