Cruises aboard the most beautiful Polish sailing ships: STS “Fryderyk Chopin” and STS “Pogoria”.

In 2020, the Polish Physical Society will celebrate the centenary of its activity. Among the many events commemorating one hundred years of scientific and social activity and the achievements of Polish physicists, we would like to organize the cruises aboard the most beautiful Polish sailing ships: STS “Fryderyk Chopin” and STS “Pogoria”.

We would like to invite our colleagues from partner physical societies, physicists and sailing enthusiasts to take part in the cruises. It should be emphasized that no sailing experience or formal training is expected from participants. The ships will be led by professional skippers and crew. Nevertheless, event participants will be obliged to take part in the daily work of sailors. The event is part of a long-term project “Physics under the sails”. Since 2005, cruises have been organized with the participation of physicists and physicist students. The events involved taking part in “The Tall Ships Races”.

We will meet on 08.08.2020 in Dunkirk (France). Then we spend 12 days aboard sailing ships, finishing in Bremerhaven (Germany). On the way we will stop in Amsterdam where we will participate in a large sailing event that is “Sail Amsterdam”. There, you can admire dozens of beautiful sailing ships and take part in interesting entertainment accompanying this event.

The approximate cost of the participation is 470 euros (excluding travel to Dunkirk and from Bremerhaven).

If you are interested in spending almost two weeks sailing with other physicists from Poland and other countries, please contact the organizer Master Mariner Dr Jan Grabski skarbnik [at] ptf [dot] net [dot] pl.
