The Nuclear Physics Division [NPD] of the EPS supports the advancement and the dissemination of knowledge in nuclear physics. In this respect the NPD regularly awards some of Europe’s most prestigious prizes. Among these is the “Lise Meitner Prize”, named after the famous Austrian physicist who worked on radioactivity and nuclear physics. Nominations are now open for the Lise Meitner Prize in 2016. The prize, awarded to one or several experienced scientists, recognises outstanding work in the fields of experimental, theoretical or applied nuclear science. Particular consideration will be given to scientific activities that represent the core of the nuclear science in Europe.

The 2016 Lise Meitner Prize is sponsored by the Karin and Carlo Giersch Foundation, the KVI Centre for Advanced Radiation Technology, Groningen, the Nuclear Physics Institute Research Centre, Julich, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Orsay, and the GSI Helmholtzzentrum fuer Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt.

Nomination should be addressed by e-mail to Douglas MacGregor, Chair, Lise Meitner Prize Committee of NPD: douglas [dot] macgregor [at] glasgow [dot] ac [dot] uk

Nominations need to be accompanied by a completed nomination form, a brief curriculum vitae of the nominee(s) and a list of major publications. Letters of support, from authorities in the field, that outline the importance of the work of the nominee(s) will also be helpful. Nominations will be treated in strict confidence.

The nomination form and more detailed information about the prize can be found on the website of the EPS Nuclear Physics Division: http://www.eps.org/npd/.
