IYL 2015 activity in United Kingdom

On 25 September 2015, Aston University Institute of Photonics Technology [AIPT], the Library of Birmingham and Community Arts Group, the Flatpack Film Festival, will deliver an afternoon and evening of demonstrations, workshops, talks and exhibitions, informed by photonics research, to communicate through fun, interactive activities the enormous importance of photonics in our everyday lives.

The activities will take place in the Library of Birmingham, Europe’s largest library, and will target the Greater Birmingham community (approximately 4 million people) – attracting families, school children of all ages, community groups and library visitors. The project will be supported by the European Commission, Marie Sklodowska Curie programme.

SPIE International Year of Light photo contest is open

The SPIE International Year of Light photo contest is open. Submit your work by 30 September 2014 and show how light and light-based technologies play a vital role in our everyday lives. The contest is open to anyone not employed by SPIE with prizes totalling $US 4,500. Winning photographs will be published in SPIE Professional magazine. Lean more on the SPIE website.

Summary of the EPS Executive Committee

The Executive Committee of the European Physical society met in Mulhouse, France, on 24 June 2014. This was the first meeting after the elections at Council. In addition to appointing officers, the Executive Committee discussed better communication with Member Societies and Divisions and Groups. Each Member of the Executive Committee acts as a privileged contact to a set of Member Societies and Divisions and Groups.
