Alongside his scientific research and teaching, Giorgio Benedek has been active in various capacities within the Italian and European physics community, at the International School of Solid State Physics at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, Erice, Italy.

Giorgio Benedek took over the role of Editor-in-Chief on 10 May 2013 from Michael Schreiber, who leaves the position at the end of a 3-year term.

“Giorgio Benedek was co-Editor of EPL from 1997 to 2001 and subsequently an Advisory Board member, and we are delighted to be welcoming him back to the journal as Editor-in-Chief.” said Graeme Watt, Executive Editor of EPL. “[He] is an exceptional scientist and his mathematical skills and broad physics background make him the ideal person to take the journal forward.”

EPL is published under the scientific policy and control of the European Physical Society [EPS] by EDP Sciences, IOP Publishing and the Società Italiana di Fisica [SIF] for a partnership of 17 European physical societies.
