Nominations are open for the 2012 EPS-PED Secondary School Teaching Award for contributions by a secondary school teacher to physics education. The award consists of a diploma and Euro 1000 cash prize.

The award is made to an individual secondary school teacher for work that directly affects students in physics in one or more European secondary schools. The award should recognize a specific contribution to teaching, particularly one that might be taken up in a range of countries.

The EPS-PED Secondary School Teaching award will be presented during the ICPE-EPEC conference, which will take place from 5-9 August 2013 in Prague, Czech Republic. The award winner is normally provided with additional funding to allow his or her attendance at the conference.

The award committee consists of four ordinary members and a chair, all nominated by the EPS Physics Education Division. A single nomination is invited from each EPS Member Society belonging to the EPS in the year of the award.

The nomination should be no longer than 500 words and should be in English. The Societies are particularly encouraged to nominate individuals who have already won a national prize or award. The Societies are also encouraged to consult national associations of physics/science teachers regarding suitable candidates.

In 2011, the EPS-PED awarded Becky Parker, Member of the Order of the British Empire and a key person in the CERN@school programme, which involves schools in taking and sharing cosmic-ray and radioactivity data.

Nominations should be sent to Prof. Urbaan Titulaer by 16 March 2013.
