The European Physical Society [EPS] Executive Committee met at the EPS headquarters, in Mulhouse, on 8-9 June this year. Following the 2011 strategy discussion – and the elections earlier this year – the committee is now composed of 13 members, eight of whom are new to the board this year.

The Executive Committee has finalised the EPS statement on the use of bibliometric indices during assessment procedures and has begun preparing a new statement about Horizon 2020, with input from the EPS divisions and groups.

The Executive Committee’s on-going renovation of the Action Committees was discussed. In the upcoming months a new way of operation, and a standardized format, will be proposed. In addition, contents and policy will also be reviewed.

The committee met with the new chair of the Physics Education Division, Goradz Planinsic, and approved the statement prepared by this division.

The evolution of communication techniques is a concern of the Executive Committee, in order to give more visibility to the EPS. The new website is evolving rapidly in order to include new features. Individual Member delegate Michel Schlenker presented the status and evolution of the detailed EPS member directory to the Executive Committee.

An executive summary of the meeting is available on the European Physical Society website.
