The Physics Publishing Alliance [PPA], in a joint initiative under the aegis of the European Physical Society [EPS], is bringing together a number of physics journals which have strong scientific and editorial links with European learned societies.

Regular selections of the best articles from the core journals will be made free to access, through the Physics Publishing Alliance Portal for Electronic Review [PPA PER], which will be embedded in the new EPS website within the coming months. In addition, recent news related to the journals will also be presented, along with links to each journal website.

Having been at the very origin of the initiative, the EPS has been working for the PPA since 2006. The alliance aims to instill and distill a European spirit for the promotion of scientific excellence in physics publishing and, at the same time, to engage the scientists worldwide with European publishing.

During a meeting in Heidelberg, at the beginning of this month, the major actors of these learned-society based journals decided to proceed with the first step of this initiative.

At present, the core PPA journals are:

In the future additional journals will, of course, be welcome to join in: such as those linked to the many EPS member societies and associate member institutions.
